We are Girl Scout Troup 2575 and we are working on our Bronze Award.  To complete our award we must do a community service project.  We chose the Nike ReUSE a SHOE PROJECT.  It is a project that takes old sneakers (NOT ONLY NIKE!!!) and creates a material called Nike Grind.  Nike Grind is then processed into making sports surfaces such as basketball courts and playgrounds.

We will be collecting your old sneakers at Sixes Elementary School; November 17, 2008 thru January 16, 2009.

Bins will be located in the 2nd and 3rd grade hallways and by the front office.

On October 10th, bring in a monetary donation for one of our Sixes' families in need, and you can wear your favorite pajamas to school!!  (Please make sure PJs are within school dress code guidelines.)

As you may know, members of our Sixes community experienced a tragedy of catastrophic proportions over the September break.  Jane Tenedini, one of our kindergarten paraprofessionals, and her husband Ken, suffered a profound loss when their home burned to the ground in an astonishing 2 am explosion at their residence.  The Tenedinis escaped the fire by climbing out of a window and jumping off of their roof.  After their 25 ft jump to the ground, their devoted neighbors were there to pull them to safety.  Unfortunately, they suffer from broken bones and second and third degree burns as a result of this devastating experience.  The Tenedinis have lost everything, including their beloved dog, Bailey.  Your thoughts, prayers and donations are very much appreciated!

THANK YOU!

P.S. If you know community members who would like to donate, but are unable to participate in our P.J. day, please direct them to the Sixes Elementary PTA Fund for Jane and Ken Tenedini.  Well wishers can donate to this fund at any Wachovia Bank.  Thank you again for your support!
